Nothing But The Tooth and Smilelign Donate £1,000 to Fight Dementia!

By Rachel Carr on 27th August 2024

We are very proud to have partnered with Smilelign to help fight a disease which touches the lives of so many poeple, including our wonderful nurse, Becky.

Research shows 1 in 11 people over the age of 65 are living with dementia in the UK. Not only can it cause memory loss, but it can also affect the way you speak, think, feel and behave. As a result, as well as taking so much from those living with the disease, it also presents huge challenges to their loved ones. Currently, more than 944,000 people are suffering from dementia, but as people continue to live longer, this figure is expected to rise to 1.4 million by 2040 – meaning an ever-increasing number of lives are being affected by this illness.

One of the people affected by dementia is our wonderful nurse, Becky. Last year, she received the news that her Nanny had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s – the most common form of dementia. Despite this diagnosis triggering a very difficult time for her and her family, they decided to seize it as an opportunity to make a positive difference and channelled their energy into fundraising for Alzheimer’s Society and Dementia UK.

On Saturday 10th August, Becky and her family hosted a fundraising event, complete with a bake sale, bingo, games, a disco and a raffle, which raised an incredible £2,000. The day was a huge success, with so many family, friends and members of the local community coming together to make a positive impact. Everyone’s generosity truly shone through!

At Nothing But The Tooth, we are delighted to have partnered with Smilelign and S4S Dental to help their fundraiser go even further! Together, we have pledged £1,000 in support of Alzheimer’s Society and Dementia UK, who do incredible work funding groundbreaking research, providing support to those suffering, and campaigning for change.

Celia Burns, Clinical Director and Principal Dentist at Nothing But The Tooth, said:

“We are very proud to be able to support Becky and her family with this donation. We are committed to making a positive impact in our community, and to be able to do this for someone so close in the NBTT is even more special.

By collaborating with Smilelign and S4S dental, we hope to make an impact in the fight against Alzheimer’s, helping to fund research, care services and advocacy efforts that are crucial for those facing this disease.

Thank you so much to Stevie Farndon for working with us to make this possible. It is brilliant to be able to work with people who share our values of community support and social responsibility. Everyone at Nothing But The Tooth and S4S congratulates Becky and her family on their wonderful fundraising achievements, and are so pleased to be able to support you further.”
